4. Engage Respectfully with OthersTo ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors, staff, artists, and collections, the KORTZ Museum maintains a strict no-weapons policy on its premises.
Weapons of any kind are not permitted inside the KORTZ Museum, regardless of permits or licenses. Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:
Firearms (loaded or unloaded)
Ammunition
Knives, blades, or cutting instruments
Explosives or explosive devices
Tasers, stun guns, or pepper spray
Replica or imitation weapons
Any object deemed by museum staff or security to pose a safety risk
Possession of a concealed carry permit, open carry permit, or any other weapons authorization does not exempt visitors from this policy. Museum rules apply to all guests while on Kortz property.
The only exception to this policy applies to:
On-duty law enforcement officers carrying service weapons in the course of their official duties.
No other exceptions will be granted.
The KORTZ Museum reserves the right to conduct bag checks or security screenings.
Visitors found in possession of prohibited items may be denied entry or asked to leave.
Failure to comply with this policy may result in removal from the premises and, if necessary, involvement of local authorities.
The safety of people always takes priority over the protection of property or artworks.
All staff members are responsible for remaining calm, following procedures, and assisting visitors as needed.
Emergency instructions given by museum staff, security, or emergency services must be followed immediately.
Examples: injury, fainting, allergic reaction, cardiac event.
Procedure:
Notify museum staff immediately.
Call local emergency services if needed.
Do not move the injured person unless there is immediate danger.
Trained staff may provide basic first aid until emergency services arrive.
Clear the area to provide privacy and space.
Procedure:
Activate the fire alarm if not already sounding.
Call emergency services immediately.
Staff will guide visitors calmly toward the nearest marked exit.
Do not use elevators.
Do not attempt to fight the fire unless trained and it is safe to do so.
Assemble at the designated outdoor meeting point.
Do not re-enter the building until authorities declare it safe.
Examples: gas leak, structural issue, power failure, external threat.
Procedure:
Staff will announce and guide evacuation.
Visitors must leave calmly and follow staff directions.
Assist visitors with disabilities or mobility needs.
Once evacuated, remain at the designated meeting point.
Staff will account for personnel when possible.
Examples: aggressive behavior, unattended packages, threats.
Procedure:
Do not confront the individual or object.
Notify museum staff or security immediately.
Follow instructions given by staff or authorities.
Evacuate if directed to do so.
Procedure:
Prioritize personal safety.
Follow instructions from law enforcement immediately.
Evacuate if safe; otherwise, shelter in place if instructed.
Staff will assist visitors when possible without placing themselves at risk.
Emergency announcements may be made verbally or via alarm systems.
Staff will coordinate with emergency responders.
Only designated staff may communicate with media or public authorities.
